New 394bhp mild-hybrid Range Rover revealed

Land Rover has announced a new mild-hybrid model of the luxury Range Rover SUV. The Range Rover MHEV uses the same 3.0-litre straight-six Ingenium petrol engine and electric motor combination found in the Range Rover Sport HST, and is available to order now, with prices starting from £83,655.

Under the bonnet, the new Range Rover MHEV’s turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine has an electric supercharger and a mild-hybrid system that combine to give a power output of 394bhp. Power goes to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, giving the car a 0-62mph time of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.

The mild-hybrid system consists of an electric motor and 48V battery that is charged by regenerative braking, and provides extra power during acceleration. When combined with the engine stop-start system, claimed fuel economy stands at 30.4mpg with CO2 emissions of 212g/km under the old NEDC testing cycle.

The launch of the MHEV model has coincided with the introduction of two new paint colours for the Range Rover line-up, as well as a new 22-inch alloy wheel design.

Headlights on all Range Rovers have been updated with two new modes. A ‘Tourist’ mode switches the headlights to a left-hand beam pattern for driving abroad and a ‘Signpost Dimming’ feature helps reduce glare from reflective road signs at night by automatically adjusting the headlight beam.

A new Smartphone Pack comes on all Range Rovers as standard, and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Pack joins ever-present technology such as the Terrain Response 2 system, along with safety tech such as high-speed emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
