Luxury SUVs in SA: BMW's best-sellers dominate the charts

The BMW X5 and X3 topped their respective categories in the luxury SUV market during May 2019. The X5, with 139 units, sold the most units in our Large Luxury SUV category, while the X3 topped the Medium Luxury SUV side with 171 units.

In a market that's constantly shifting, the Range Rover/RR Sport managed to leap a few spots to second place to outsell the popular Toyota Land Cruiser 200: 97 units vs. 93. In fourth place is the Toyota Prado with 76 units.

The Volkswagen Touareg did well to maintain its position in the top ten with 51 units sold. A welcome addition to the category - two additions, actually - is the Audi Q8, as well as the BMW X7. Both SUVs sit at the top of their respective automaker’s hierarchy and did they, respectively, sell 39 units and 34 units to go sixth and eighth. The Q8 just ousting the X7. Splitting the two giants is the Volvo XC90 on 35 units.

In ninth place is the Land Rover Discovery with 33 units sold, followed by the Jeep Grand Cherokee on 31 units.
